A member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and Member of the Asociacion Mexicana de Cirugia Plastica Estetica y Reconstructiva, Dr. Manjarrez discusses the most popular procedures and his recommendations for post-op care.  Plus, learn the top 3 surgeries for men and women; they may surprise you!

What are the most common face and neck surgical procedures that female patients ask you to perform?

The most common procedures focus on tightening the skin, softening facial expressions and wrinkles such as a facelift (rhytidectomy), nose surgery (rhinoplasty), eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), chin augmentation, facial fat grafting and volume restoration. To appear more youthful, patients request procedures that plump the skin with fillers. Choosing the best face and neck surgical procedure depends on the patient’s age, skin type, background along with other factors.

Which procedures are most effective for improving face/neck appearance?

The main noninvasive treatments we use in our clinic include Thermage CPT and Exilis. For patients who wish to have surgery, a facelift, when performed by a skilled board certified surgeon, can help your face look its best and give you a more naturally youthful appearance.

And what do you recommend to patients for post-procedure treatment?

Much of the success of facial rejuvenation procedures depends on diligent skincare in the days and weeks following the procedure. It is important to use a product that provides effective moisturization as well as addresses skin firmness and reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. MEG 21 with Supplamine¬ģ delivers these results in as little as four weeks. For patients that undergo surgical procedures, MEG 21 with Supplamine provides improved wound-healing, erythema reduction and smoother skin texture. Even patients that are just looking for a daily moisturizer have benefits with constant use of MEG 21.

We are constantly exposed to harmful effects in the environment, smoke, stress and excessive sugar intake. Having an antioxidant boost reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by repairing the damaged skin.

There has been some talk about the ‚ÄúVampire‚ÄĚ or PRP procedure. What is it?

The “Vampire ” procedure involves withdrawing a patient’s blood, processing it to isolate the¬†platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and then re-injecting the plasma throughout the face to smooth wrinkles and create a youthful look.

What are the benefits and risks of the ‚ÄúVampire‚ÄĚ procedure?

The benefits include tissue regeneration and rejuvenation, induction of cell differentiation, extracellular matrix formation and an increase in collagen production.  But there are risks: increased risk for infection, skin discoloration and bruising, pain in the injected area, allergic reaction and blood clot, which could occur if a vein is damaged with the needle. We do not perform PRP at our clinic but would recommend MEG 21 Face Treatment as part of the skin healing regimen.  It is a great product for reducing inflammation and improving skin texture.

One of our surgeons recommends MEG 21 for PRP procedure. Do you?

We do not perform PRP at our clinic, but I recommend MEG 21 with Supplamine to all patients that have undergone invasive and noninvasive procedures.  MEG 21 is great for reducing inflammation and improving skin texture.  We also recommend  products targeted for specific skin needs and sunscreen.  Patients that want a more complete regimen love MEG 21 Antioxidant Boost.  We are constantly exposed to harmful effects in the environment, smoke, stress and excessive sugar intake. Having an antioxidant boost reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by repairing the damaged skin. MEG 21 Hand Treatment is an excellent choice to hydrate and smooth roughness in the skin.  Patients also report an improvement in skin tone after daily use.

What are the most important ingredients you advise your patients to incorporate into their daily skin care routine?

Following face and neck surgeries, our recommendations are focused on reducing glycation and   maintaining hydration.  Therefore our emphasis is to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress.  We recommend that our patients not leave the office without a good medical skin care regimen   that includes MEG 21 with Supplamine. Glycation is part of the normal aging process, but its detrimental effects on skin can be minimized through a careful choice of skin care products and keeping a healthy lifestyle. We also encourage them to use sunscreen and avoid prolonged sun exposure, especially during the first weeks post surgery.

Many of your patients are Hispanic. Do Hispanic women have unique skin care and  beauty needs?

When it comes to skincare needs, skin is skin‚ÄĒand it is important to follow the universal basic ¬†needs like daily face wash, use of appropriate products for your skin type (dry, oily or mixed), ¬† and use of sunscreen. Hispanics do need to pay special attention to uneven skin tone, ¬† hyperpigmentation, ingrown hairs and stubborn marks. The primary concern for Hispanic ¬†women is uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation and texture.

How do you address these skin issues both surgically and topically?

Patients can benefit from noninvasive treatment with medical technology as well as a daily skincare regimen. We combine laser treatments, peels, along with skin lighteners, MEG 21 Antioxidant Boost and moisturizer for better results.  And of course, Sunscreen!

What has been your experience using MEG 21 with Supplamine with your patients?

Our patients love MEG 21 products. It helps hydrate the skin and reduce the appearance of inflammation, fine lines and wrinkles. The texture of the skin improves significantly and patients keep coming back for more product. We also recommend using MEG 21 with sunscreen.

What’s your recommendation for younger people who want to maintain healthy, youthful skin?

Prevention is a must. Start early with a skin care regimen that will stop glycation, oxidative stress and prevent the appearance of aging skin, such as MEG 21 with Supplamine. Beauty starts from within. Stay hydrated, eat healthy, exercise, sleep well, and learn to love and take care of your skin. And always remember to wear sunscreen!
