What are botanical lipids?
Lipids are oils, butters and waxes. Botanical lipids come from seeds, nuts and fruits. MEG 21 uses a different blend in each treatment: jojoba oil and cocoa butter in Smooth Radiance Face Treatment; cocoa butter, shea butter and evening primrose oil in Décolleté Treatment; and jojoba, coconut, avocado, grape seed, sunflower seed and neem seed oils in Bright & Firm Eye Treatment.
What they do for skin
Botanical lipids help soften and smooth skin, help reduce moisture loss by forming a light, breathable layer, and help skin feel supple and comfortable. Richer butters suit thicker areas like the neck and chest; lighter oils suit the eye area.
How they work
Plant oils are rich in fatty acids such as oleic and linoleic acid, which resemble the lipids that skin uses in its own barrier. Jojoba oil is technically a liquid wax that resembles the waxy esters in skin’s natural sebum, so it absorbs comfortably. Butters like shea and cocoa act as emollients and occlusives, smoothing the surface and helping hold in the water that humectants such as glycerin bring in.
Why MEG 21 uses them
Skin that is dry or crepey needs comfort as well as active care. The botanical lipids give the Face, Décolleté and Eye treatments their nourishing textures, help support the barrier, and create a comfortable base for Supplamine®, which helps protect collagen from glycation. Vitamin E in the same formulas helps keep these oils fresh.
How to use it in your routine
Apply the richer treatments after Advanced Defense Serum: Smooth Radiance Face Treatment on the face, Décolleté Treatment on the neck and chest with upward strokes, and Bright & Firm Eye Treatment around the eyes. Warm a small amount between your fingertips first so the butters melt and spread easily.
Who is it for?
Botanical lipids are ideal for dry, mature-looking or crepey skin, and for the neck and chest, where skin is thinner and often shows dryness first.
