Hyaluronic Acid

Hydration and plumpness

Hyaluronic acid is one of skin’s own moisture molecules. MEG 21 uses sodium hyaluronate, a form of hyaluronic acid, to help draw water into the skin for a smoother, plumper, more radiant look.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a sugar-based molecule found naturally throughout the body, with a large share of it in the skin. It is famous for holding water: a small amount can bind many times its weight in water.

MEG 21 formulas use sodium hyaluronate, the salt form of hyaluronic acid. It is the most common form in skincare because it is stable and easy to formulate into light, comfortable textures.

What hyaluronic acid does for skin

Hyaluronic acid helps hydrate the outer layers of skin. Well-hydrated skin looks plumper and smoother, fine dry lines look softer, and makeup sits more evenly. It also helps skin feel comfortable rather than tight.

How it works

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant: it attracts water and helps hold it in the upper layers of skin. Because it works best when the barrier can keep that water in, it pairs well with barrier lipids such as ceramides and with other humectants such as glycerin.

Skin’s own hyaluronic acid naturally declines with time and is affected by sun exposure, which is one reason skin can start to feel drier and look less plump.

Why MEG 21 uses it

Hydration is one of the four pillars of SP-IV Complex™ in Advanced Defense Serum, where sodium hyaluronate and glycerin bring moisture in and ceramides help keep it there, alongside Supplamine® and peptides. In Bright & Firm Eye Treatment it helps the delicate eye area look smoother, and in Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30 it keeps skin comfortable under daily mineral sun protection.

How to use it in your routine

Hyaluronic acid works best on slightly damp skin, followed by a cream that helps hold the moisture in. Apply Advanced Defense Serum after cleansing, follow with your MEG 21 treatment, and finish your morning with Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30, which carries hyaluronic acid too. In very dry air, a richer cream on top helps.

Who is it for?

Hyaluronic acid suits every skin type, including oily and sensitive skin, because it hydrates without heaviness. It is especially helpful for dehydrated skin, skin that feels tight, and anyone noticing fine dry lines.
