What is vitamin E?
Vitamin E is a family of fat-soluble compounds, the best known of which are tocopherols. Tocopherol is vitamin E in its free form; tocopheryl acetate is a more stable form that skin can partly convert to free vitamin E. It is a golden, oily liquid, and plant oils such as sunflower and wheat germ are rich natural sources.
What it does for skin
Vitamin E helps defend skin against free radicals, helps soften and nourish dry skin, and helps support the skin barrier. It also helps protect the plant oils in a formula from going rancid.
How it works
Vitamin E is one of the main antioxidants in the skin’s outer layer, where it sits among the barrier lipids and helps protect them from oxidation, for example after sun exposure. It works especially well with vitamin C: after vitamin E neutralizes a free radical, vitamin C can help restore it, so the two are a classic pair.
Why MEG 21 uses it
Vitamin E is in four MEG 21 formulas: Smooth Radiance Face Treatment, Décolleté Treatment, Bright & Firm Eye Treatment and Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30. It adds antioxidant support next to Supplamine®, which helps interrupt glycation, and helps protect the botanical lipids such as cocoa butter, shea butter and jojoba oil that make the treatments rich and comfortable.
How to use it in your routine
Vitamin E is part of the Face, Décolleté, Eye and SPF formulas, so it comes with your routine automatically. Apply the treatments after cleansing and serum, and finish your morning with Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30, where vitamin E adds antioxidant support to sun protection.
Who is it for?
Vitamin E suits most skin types and is especially good for dry or weather-stressed skin. Oilier skin can enjoy it in lighter textures such as Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30.
