Daily sun protection

Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are mineral sunscreen filters. In Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30 they help protect skin against UV, the leading driver of visible skin aging, with a sheer, skin-flattering tint.

What are mineral UV filters?

Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are mineral compounds, produced as very fine white powders for sunscreen. They are the only two mineral filters the FDA recognizes for use in mineral (sometimes called physical) sunscreens. Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30 contains 6.0% zinc oxide and 2.5% titanium dioxide, and uses iron oxides for its sheer tint.

What they do for skin

Mineral filters help protect skin against UV rays, which are a major cause of sunburn and of visible signs of aging such as lines, uneven tone and loss of firmness. Daily sun protection is one of the most effective habits for keeping skin looking healthy.

How they work

Mineral filters were long described as tiny mirrors that bounce sunlight away. In fact, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide mostly absorb UV energy and release it as a very small amount of heat, and scatter a smaller share. Zinc oxide covers a wide range of UVA and UVB wavelengths, and titanium dioxide adds strength in the UVB range.

Iron oxides give the formula a soft tint that helps offset the white cast mineral sunscreens can leave, and they also help with visible light.

Why MEG 21 uses them

UV, oxidative stress and glycation are three key drivers of visible skin aging. MEG 21’s treatments use Supplamine® to help interrupt glycation and antioxidants to help with oxidative stress, and Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30 completes the routine by helping protect against UV. It also carries hyaluronic acid, panthenol, chamomile, cucumber, aloe, green tea and allantoin to keep skin comfortable.

How to use it in your routine

Apply Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30 as the last step of your morning routine, after your MEG 21 treatments. Use a generous amount for the face and neck, and reapply at least every two hours when outdoors, after swimming or sweating, and after towel drying. Follow the directions on the product label.

Who is it for?

Mineral filters are often preferred by people with sensitive skin and by anyone who wants a mineral-only sunscreen. Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30 is designed as the last step of your morning routine, every day.
