What is green tea extract?
Green tea extract is made from the leaves of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis. Because green tea leaves are steamed or pan-heated soon after picking, they keep high levels of polyphenols called catechins, the most studied of which is EGCG.
What it does for skin
Green tea extract helps defend skin against free radicals from UV and pollution, helps skin look calmer and less red, and helps it feel soothed and comfortable.
How it works
Catechins are antioxidants: they help neutralize free radicals, unstable molecules that can damage skin proteins and lipids. Oxidative stress is one of the key drivers of visible skin aging, alongside UV exposure and glycation. Green tea polyphenols are also known for their soothing properties, which is why green tea is a favorite in formulas for sensitive skin.
Why MEG 21 uses it
Green tea appears in three MEG 21 formulas. In Décolleté Treatment and Bright & Firm Eye Treatment it adds antioxidant care alongside Supplamine®, which helps interrupt glycation. In Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30 it supports the mineral filters, adding a layer of antioxidant defense to daily sun protection. With vitamin E and the vitamin C derivative, it helps build a well-rounded antioxidant network.
How to use it in your routine
Green tea is part of Décolleté Treatment, Bright & Firm Eye Treatment and Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30, so it comes with your routine automatically. Antioxidants are especially useful in the morning, under sunscreen, when skin faces UV and pollution through the day.
Who is it for?
Green tea extract suits every skin type and is especially welcome on sensitive, easily flushed or city-stressed skin. It is a good daily ingredient for anyone who wants extra antioxidant support.
