What is glycerin?
Glycerin (also called glycerol) is a clear, odorless, slightly sweet liquid. It is found naturally in skin, and for skincare it is often made from plant oils. It is one of the most widely used and best-studied humectants.
What it does for skin
Glycerin helps hydrate skin, helps keep it soft and smooth, and helps support the skin barrier. Well-hydrated skin looks plumper and fresher, and feels more comfortable.
How it works
As a humectant, glycerin attracts water and holds it in the outer layer of skin. Skin also uses glycerin naturally: it helps keep the outer layer flexible and supports barrier function. Glycerin works especially well with barrier lipids and emollients, which help seal in the water it brings in.
Why MEG 21 uses it
Glycerin is in every MEG 21 treatment: Advanced Defense Serum, Smooth Radiance Face Treatment, Décolleté Treatment, Bright & Firm Eye Treatment and Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30. In the Serum it is part of the hydration pillar of SP-IV Complex™ with hyaluronic acid; in the creams it pairs with botanical lipids; and in every formula it supports a comfortable base for Supplamine® and the other actives.
How to use it in your routine
Glycerin comes with every MEG 21 formula. For the most hydration, apply products to slightly damp skin: Advanced Defense Serum first, then your MEG 21 treatments, and Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30 in the morning. In dry air, a richer cream on top helps hold in the water glycerin attracts.
Who is it for?
Glycerin suits every skin type, from oily to very dry, and is especially helpful for dehydrated skin and dry climates.
