What is panthenol?
Panthenol is the provitamin form of vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid). It is a clear, slightly viscous liquid that dissolves easily in water, so it blends smoothly into lightweight formulas.
What it does for skin
Panthenol helps attract and hold moisture, helps skin feel soft and smooth, helps support the skin barrier, and helps calm the feeling of dryness and tightness. It is a classic ingredient in comforting formulas for sensitive skin.
How it works
Once absorbed, panthenol is converted in skin to pantothenic acid, which is part of coenzyme A, a molecule skin cells use to build lipids, including barrier lipids. Panthenol is also a humectant, so it helps draw water into the outer layers of skin, much like glycerin.
Panthenol is also known for helping skin feel comfortable after everyday stressors such as sun, wind and cleansing, which is why it is often found in after-sun and barrier care.
Why MEG 21 uses it
In Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30, panthenol keeps skin comfortable and moisturized under daily mineral sun protection. It works alongside hyaluronic acid, aloe, bisabolol, green tea and vitamin E, so the sunscreen feels like part of your skincare, not just a final layer.
How to use it in your routine
Apply Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30 as the last step of your morning routine. Thanks to comforting ingredients like panthenol, it can be worn on its own or over your MEG 21 treatments. Follow the directions on the product label for how much to apply and when to reapply.
Who is it for?
Panthenol suits every skin type and is especially helpful for dry, sensitive or easily stressed skin, and for anyone who finds sunscreens drying.
