What to Put on Your Skin After Microneedling (and Laser & Peel Aftercare)

You’ve booked the microneedling session, or the laser, or the peel. The treatment itself is over in under an hour. Then comes the question everyone types into their phone on the drive home: what do I put on my skin now?

This guide walks through what providers typically recommend in the days after microneedling, laser treatments such as Moxi, BBL and CO2, and chemical peels, and when it makes sense to bring your everyday routine back. One rule sits above everything else here: your provider’s aftercare instructions come first. Every treatment, device and skin type is different, and they know exactly what was done to yours.

Microneedling aftercare: the first few days

Microneedling creates tiny, controlled channels in the skin. For a short while afterwards, skin tends to feel warm, tight and more sensitive than usual, and it absorbs whatever you put on it more readily. That is why the general advice in the first days is about keeping things simple.

What providers usually recommend

  • A gentle cleanse with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser, when your provider says it’s fine to wash.
  • Simple hydration. Many providers send you home with a specific post-treatment product. Use that, or the plain, soothing moisturiser they suggest.
  • Sun protection and shade. Stay out of direct sun and, once your provider gives the go-ahead, use a mineral sunscreen every day.
  • Hands off. No picking, scrubbing or touching more than you need to.

What to skip for now

  • Retinoids, exfoliating acids (AHAs, BHAs) and scrubs
  • Strongly fragranced products and anything that stings
  • Makeup, until your provider says it’s okay
  • Saunas, hot yoga and intense workouts in the first day or two

When can I use serum after microneedling?

This is the most common question, and the honest answer is: when your provider says your skin is ready. For many people that means a few days, but it varies with the depth of the treatment and how your skin responds. When you do bring your routine back, reintroduce one product at a time, starting with the gentlest.

That is the moment MEG 21 fits in. Our Smooth Radiance Face Treatment is a weightless daily treatment that layers easily under SPF and makeup, with Supplamine® anti-glycation technology and soothing bisabolol. It’s designed for the long stretch between sessions, helping your skin look hydrated, smooth and firm while you wait for your next appointment.

Laser and peel aftercare: why mineral SPF matters

Lasers and peels work by renewing the skin’s surface. Whether it’s a gentle Moxi “prejuvenation” session, BBL for redness and sun spots, a more intensive CO2 resurfacing or a chemical peel, the skin afterwards is newer, more delicate and more sensitive to the sun.

That is why sun protection is the one instruction you’ll hear from every provider. UV exposure on freshly treated skin can lead to uneven tone and dark spots, which is exactly what most people booked the treatment to improve.

Mineral vs chemical sunscreen

Chemical sunscreens absorb UV inside the skin. Mineral sunscreens use zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide, which sit on the surface. Many providers prefer mineral formulas after lasers and peels because they tend to be gentler on sensitive skin. Tinted mineral formulas with iron oxides add a little extra: defense against visible light, which matters for anyone prone to uneven tone.

Our Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30 is a 100% mineral, broad-spectrum SPF 30, tinted with iron oxides for a universally flattering finish with no white cast. It’s made to be suitable for sensitive and post-procedure skin. Use it once your provider gives you the green light, and reapply through the day if you’re outdoors.

Laser and peel aftercare, the short version

  • Follow your provider’s instructions to the letter, including any products they give you.
  • Keep skin hydrated and avoid picking or peeling flakes.
  • Pause retinoids and exfoliants until you are cleared to restart.
  • Mineral SPF every morning, plus a hat and shade.

Building your between-treatments routine

Once your skin is back to normal, the goal is to look after it consistently, so your results keep looking their best for longer. A simple routine we love:

Why anti-glycation? Glycation is an everyday process where sugars bind to collagen and elastin, leaving skin looking less firm and less radiant over time. Supplamine® helps interrupt visible glycation on the skin’s surface. In a MEG 21 study, skin showed +62.9% hydration and +35.4% firmness.

In an 8-week open-label study of an original MEG 21 Supplamine® formula, conducted by a contract research organisation.

See real customers on our results page, or try the whole routine first with the Anti-Glycation Discovery Kit: five travel sizes, including the face treatment and the mineral SPF. Prefer a set? The Day Defense Set pairs the Advanced Defense Serum with the Daily Mineral Shield SPF 30.

FAQ

What should I put on my skin right after microneedling?

Usually only what your provider recommends: often a gentle cleanser, a simple hydrating product and, once allowed, mineral SPF. Avoid actives until you’re cleared.

How long after microneedling can I use my regular skincare?

It varies with the treatment and your skin. Many people wait a few days, but always follow your provider’s timeline and reintroduce products one at a time.

Why do providers recommend mineral sunscreen after lasers and peels?

Treated skin is more sensitive to the sun, and mineral filters such as zinc oxide sit on the surface and tend to be gentler. Tinted formulas with iron oxides also help with visible light.

Can MEG 21 replace my aftercare products?

No. Use the aftercare your provider recommends first. MEG 21 is designed for your daily routine once your skin is ready, between treatments.
